Education

The Texas Constitution requires the Legislature to: "…establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools." Despite huge increases in public education funding since 2000, Texas still lags behind in student performance. This is not due to poor teachers or bad students. It is the result of too much centralized control in Austin. We must implement common sense reforms in Texas education: increased local control and flexibility, school choice, performance-based pay, and money that is tied to students instead of districts. These are essential steps to ensure an efficient system of public school. It's time for Texas education to follow in the footsteps of our economy and become the envy of the country.
